The latest insights on yoga, mindfulness, and wellbeing from our instructors.
A growing body of research suggests that a consistent yoga practice does more than improve flexibility and strength — it may also support long-term brain health. Studies using MRI scans have found that regular practitioners show increased grey matter density in regions associated with memory, attention, and emotional regulation, particularly the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex.
Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.
by The Bhagavad GitaThe mechanism appears to be a combination of factors: the physical movement increases blood flow to the brain, the breathwork (pranayama) activates the parasympathetic nervous system and lowers cortisol, and the meditative focus required by the practice builds the same attention networks strengthened by mindfulness meditation. Together, these effects are linked to better working memory, reduced age-related cognitive decline, and lower rates of anxiety and depression.
You don't need an advanced practice to see these benefits. Several of the studies reviewed found measurable changes in participants after as little as 8 to 12 weeks of practicing two to three times per week. Beginner-friendly styles like Hatha and gentle Vinyasa were shown to be just as effective as more vigorous styles, since the benefits are driven more by consistency and the breath-movement connection than by intensity.
If you're curious about the brain-health benefits of yoga, the easiest way to start is with a regular, sustainable routine — even two short sessions a week can make a difference over time. Our instructors are happy to help you build a plan that fits your schedule and experience level.

Posted at 15:32h, 06 DecemberThis really matches my experience! I've been coming to classes for about six months now and I definitely feel sharper and calmer, especially on the days I practice in the morning before work.
